Dear Parents and Students,
Please reference the following for the beginning of the school year. 2024-2025 WBMS Band Handbook and Acknowledgement Form - Due August 16 2024-2025 WBMS Band Calendar - Printable Welcome to the 2024-2025 Webb Bridge Middle School Band Program. Your two band directors this year are Kirk Stroud and Erick Stallings. This school year we are also happy to welcome Michelle Jiang to the WBMS Band Staff as our Assistant Band Director. Please know that it is our sincere hope that all students in the Webb Bridge Band have a positive experience that they can take with them as they progress into high school. Being a member of the band has many benefits that go beyond becoming a musician. Numerous studies have shown that students who are involved in music have higher test scores and get accepted to some of the best colleges. The music students are also typically the leaders within the school and community. Band provides a great opportunity to become a musician, but also brings with it many attributes that students should strive for: Work ethic, Persistence, Dedication, Commitment, etc. Joining band in middle school also sets you up for success at the high school level. Alpharetta High School Band is nationally recognized and performs frequently at state and national conventions along with nationally recognized parades. Overall, band can be very rewarding and filled with many opportunities for performance. Again, we look forward to providing musical experiences and opportunities throughout this band year. Very Sincerely, Kirk Stroud [email protected] Webb Bridge Middle School, Band Director Erick Stallings [email protected] Webb Bridge Middle School, Band Director Michelle Jiang Webb Bridge Middle School, Assistant Band Director The Webb Bridge Middle School Band Program was well represented this past weekend at the Georgia Music Educators Association First Round All-State Audition.
We had approximately 50 students go through a very rigorous audition consisting of memorized scales, a prepared etude, and performing a piece only after studying it for 30 seconds. This year we had a record number of students earn placements into one of the Fulton County Honor Bands and pass through to the 2nd Round All-State Auditions where they will be representing Webb Bridge at the State Level. Below is a breakdown of what the band students of Webb Bridge accomplished.
Mr. Stallings and I are very proud of all of these students and we know they will represent Webb Bridge, the Alpharetta Cluster of Bands, and our school with pride and excellence. Way to go WBMS Band!!! Dear 6th and 8th Grade WBMS Band Parents,
Please read through the document below as it contains all of the details for the Cluster Concert at Alpharetta High School on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. I look forward to you getting to hear your child's concert that evening! Welcome to the 2023-2024 WBMS Band Year! We look forward to a great year of music making. Below are some things to take care of at the beginning of the year for band. Click on the links!
As always please let us know if you ever have any questions. Great job to the 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Bands and Jazz Band on their performances at our Spring Concert!
The 7th and 8th Grade Bands had a great year earning Superior Ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation and having many other great performances throughout the year. The 6th Grade Bands also had a great year earning Superior Ratings at the Trills and Thrills Music Festival and having many other great performances throughout the year. I wish the 8th Graders much success as they enter high school! We look forward to a great 2023-2024 Band Year as we welcome Mr. Stallings to the Webb Bridge Middle School Band Program. You can read an introduction letter from Mr. Stallings here: Mr. Stallings Introduction Letter Have a great summer! Dear WBMS Band Parents,
The Webb Bridge Band program this year has grown to having over 325 band students. This is great but also creates some issues regarding having enough instruments. One of our biggest deficits in instrument supply is in double French Horns. A good quality double French Horn that will provide good future opportunities to students costs anywhere between $3000 - $4000. With a band program our size it would be great to have at least 8 French Horns per grade level. Currently we have a total of 8 French Horns in our school inventory at Webb Bridge. The band activity fee only provides support in regards to purchasing band uniforms, spirit shirts, method books, bringing in professional clinicians to work with the students and other costs related to the running of a large band program. We will be having 2 fundraisers this year that will be completely dedicated to purchasing new instruments. The first one is very easy and it was made available to us by the AHS Band Boosters. This could be a great way for us to earn close to $5000 - if not more! Please read the email from the high school band director(s) below. The sign-up link for this event is below and included in the attached document. Ameris Bank Amphitheater Volunteer Sign-Up "Hello Webb Bridge Middle School Band Parents, My name is Todd Manson and I am the new Director of Bands at Alpharetta High School. Along with Mr. Kaufman, who many of you already know, it has been a whirlwind start of our school year! This community is steeped in musical tradition, and I am honored and humbled to be a part of the Alpharetta faculty. I have had a few opportunities to spend some time at Webb Bridge Middle School, and Mr. Kaufman and I look forward to getting over there much more as the semester continues. I am messaging you today with a fundraising opportunity for the Webb Bridge Band Program and to also ask for a favor from our collective band parents. Here at Alpharetta High School Bands, we have a fundraiser that is in my humble opinion one of the best fundraising opportunities that exists for school band programs. Our band parents faithfully staff a concession stand at Ameris Band Amphitheater. To keep this cabana, we must fully staff every concert and sell beer to concert goers during the concert. Due to the nature of our alcohol sales, we can only have people above the age of 18 working in the stand. This is a constant fundraiser for us, and our obligation is to staff every concert no matter when it occurs, or if concerts are added (as many have been to the end of our Ameris season due to the cancellation of Music Midtown). To date, that fundraiser has helped the Alpharetta HS Band immensely, and will continue to provide new instruments, educational resources and more opportunities for our students as we continue to grow. Unfortunately, we have a big conflict coming up and I wanted to see if our Webb Bridge Band parents may be able to come to our rescue. On Saturday, September 24th we have a marching band competition that will be in Cobb County. We are going to need our AHS Band Parents with us that evening to help transport our students and logistically help with our performance. That same night, we have an Ameris Band Concert that we need to staff, and this is where you come in. We are asking for a total of 10 WBMS Band Parent Volunteers to come and help us at our Ameris Band Cabana for that night. No experience is necessary. We will have a few of the high school parents there to take the lead, we just need workers. Our parents have a great time working at the concerts and they try to have a lot of fun during the event. On any given night, our cabana can earn anywhere from $2000 to $4000 in tips and staffing rewards. If we can get 10 WBMS Band Parents to work at our stand on September 24th and October 21st, then the AHS Band will fully donate all the proceeds from those evenings to the WBMS Band. This will certainly help Mr. Stroud and the students of WBMS Band with any program needs that he may have. This can be a fantastic "win-win" for both band programs, and again will help the AHS Marching Band families our tremendously. We must have a fully committed group of volunteers by Friday, September 16th. Please see the attached sign-up genius to sign-up for a shift on Saturday, September 24th.
