Dear WBMS Band 6th Grade Parents, The 6th Graders are doing an amazing job in class working on their pass-offs and on their winter concert music! We were so proud of the performance at the Cluster Concert. Click below for a video of that performance! Pizza Pass-Off Goal!We will be throwing a pizza luncheon on December 17th or 18th for all 6th Grade Band students who complete 3 pass-offs from where they were at when we recorded their last completed pass-off this past week! Please encourage your child to keep practicing and coming in for pass-offs on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Important - Purchasing New Instruments or Rental UpgradesParents/guardians who wish to purchase a new instrument or upgrade their current rental to an intermediate should contact the directors before purchasing or upgrading their rental. We will be more than happy to recommend a great step-up instrument that will serve them throughout high school. Upcoming Events
Encourage Practicing! It is necessary that the students practice at home as often as they can (we recommend every day for 15 minutes outside of class time) to ensure proper development in the beginning band stages. This is much more beneficial than practicing once a week or only on the weekends as this is not nearly enough time to develop. Frequency (every day) of practice is most important! Please remember that the band room is open every morning starting at 8AM for open practice - students are strongly encouraged to come down to practice! Private Lessons!A great way to get ahead in class is to take private lessons. Please send us an email if you would like suggestions regarding instructors that are local to the area.
Please send us an email for some suggestions of local teachers that can help get your child ahead! Have a great week and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Mr. Stroud Mr. Stallings Mr. Durden

We look forward to starting your children on the journey of learning a new instrument and as always please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Mr. Stroud, Band Director Mr. Stallings, Band Director Mr. Durden, Assistant Band Director Dear 6th Grade Band Parents and Students, Your children are continuing to learn in class how to hold and make the first sounds on their instrument. At Webb Bridge the students are very fortunate to have 3 band directors that teach your children every day. While Mr. Stallings and I can teach all the instruments, we are able to split apart in 6th Grade to provide more individualized education to all of the beginning band students. This is another factor that contributes to the success of our band program! How are the 6th Grade Bands split? In college music majors specialize on one instrument while learning how to teach the other instruments as well as studying the philosophies of education.
Do woodwinds, brass, and percussion ever combine?YES! Before every concert we combine the woodwinds, brass, and percussion into one big group and play music together. Encourage practicing! It is necessary that the students practice at home as often as they can (we recommend every day for 15 minutes outside of class time) to ensure proper development in the beginning band stages. WBMS Band Mentorship ProgramWe will begin our band mentorship program on Monday, September 8th. All 6th Grade students will have an opportunity to sign-up for a help session sponsored by a teacher approved 7th and 8th Grade band mentor on their instrument. The students will begin signing up on Friday of this week for mentorships beginning on Monday, September 8th. These 7th and 8th Grade Band students are giving up their time to help the 6th Graders (because they love band!) so please be sure that when your child signs up for a time slot on a specific day (Monday - Friday) they will be in attendance on this day. The mentorship starts at 8AM and students can be dropped off at the main entrance. Parents do not have to wait with their child at the front - unless you would like to. The front office will begin allowing students to come down to the band room beginning at 8AM. Private Lessons!A great way to get ahead in class is to take private lessons. Alpharetta High School Raider BandThe WBMS 8th Grade Band was in the stands for a short time this past Friday with the AHS Band before weather resulted in everyone being relocated inside. Please make note that our week of "First Lesson Mornings" was only for 1 week as noted on the WBMS Band Calendar. This event is not a weekly event as we have open practice every morning for all of our band students starting at 8AM. We strongly encourage all students to come in the morning to practice! In the beginning you may hear some interesting sounds coming out of your students instruments at home - please know that this is all part of the learning process and it will get more and more refined as the days, weeks, and months move on. Please continue encouraging them to practice and even have them show you what they have learned! I have heard from some parents that they learn the instrument along with their child while they are learning! This can be fun and rewarding! Sincerely, Mr. Stroud, Band Director Mr. Stallings, Band Director Mr. Durden, Assistant Band Director "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle Dear WBMS 6th Grade Band Parents, We have finished our 6th Grade instrument fitting and all families should have received the "Instrument Selection" sheet from the student and email. The students have also received their method book, all labeled with their name, they will be using for the year. This book is included as part of their band activity fee of $135 which is due by September 9, 2025. Please know that the replacement cost for losing this book is $13.00. I have included a 6th Grade Instrument Selection Sheet below for your reference. 6th Grade Instrument and Supplies Sheet Please be sure to read through this information carefully as it contains all of the necessary information needed to obtain your child's instrument. ***IMPORTANT—Each year students bring in brand new instruments costing $100-$300 usually purchased online (Amazon, Ebay, etc). These instruments quickly have mechanical issues. Unfortunately these instruments have lots of problems and students usually end up quitting because they are not successful. This is extremely sad and in most cases, the instrument caused the student’s problem. Even as a beginner, a quality instrument is important. Generally, discount and warehouse club stores’ instruments are not of good quality and can present numerous problems in various areas. In addition, most music stores refuse to repair these instruments. As a general rule, a new instrument purchase should cost a minimum of $500 if you are deciding to purchase. Rent to own programs usually costs on average $45-$55 a month.*** Next Week - First Lesson Mornings - Required!Next week we will begin learning how to assemble, hold, and make the first sounds on our instruments. We will be having "First Lesson Mornings" for all new 6th Grade Band students on the following days. All 6th Grade Band students need to attend on their appropriate day. We will have some 7th and 8th graders in to assist us on these mornings! The lessons begin at 8AM. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle Dear WBMS 6th Grade Band Parents, We are so excited to welcome 159 new band students and parents to the WBMS Band Program! The instrument fitting process at the beginning of the year is crucial to the success of a great band year! We have been successful with this process for many years and our goal is to get the students on an instrument they will be successful at and enjoy playing. We hope to get the instrument selections out by Friday, August 15th, at that time you will receive instructions on how you can obtain an instrument. Please do not obtain an instrument until you receive the instrument selection letter. ***IMPORTANT—Each year students bring in brand new instruments costing $100-$300 usually purchased online (Amazon, Ebay, etc).
