Dear WBMS Band Parents,
The Webb Bridge Band program this year has grown to having over 325 band students. This is great but also creates some issues regarding having enough instruments. One of our biggest deficits in instrument supply is in double French Horns. A good quality double French Horn that will provide good future opportunities to students costs anywhere between $3000 - $4000. With a band program our size it would be great to have at least 8 French Horns per grade level. Currently we have a total of 8 French Horns in our school inventory at Webb Bridge. The band activity fee only provides support in regards to purchasing band uniforms, spirit shirts, method books, bringing in professional clinicians to work with the students and other costs related to the running of a large band program. We will be having 2 fundraisers this year that will be completely dedicated to purchasing new instruments. The first one is very easy and it was made available to us by the AHS Band Boosters. This could be a great way for us to earn close to $5000 - if not more! Please read the email from the high school band director(s) below. The sign-up link for this event is below and included in the attached document. Ameris Bank Amphitheater Volunteer Sign-Up "Hello Webb Bridge Middle School Band Parents, My name is Todd Manson and I am the new Director of Bands at Alpharetta High School. Along with Mr. Kaufman, who many of you already know, it has been a whirlwind start of our school year! This community is steeped in musical tradition, and I am honored and humbled to be a part of the Alpharetta faculty. I have had a few opportunities to spend some time at Webb Bridge Middle School, and Mr. Kaufman and I look forward to getting over there much more as the semester continues. I am messaging you today with a fundraising opportunity for the Webb Bridge Band Program and to also ask for a favor from our collective band parents. Here at Alpharetta High School Bands, we have a fundraiser that is in my humble opinion one of the best fundraising opportunities that exists for school band programs. Our band parents faithfully staff a concession stand at Ameris Band Amphitheater. To keep this cabana, we must fully staff every concert and sell beer to concert goers during the concert. Due to the nature of our alcohol sales, we can only have people above the age of 18 working in the stand. This is a constant fundraiser for us, and our obligation is to staff every concert no matter when it occurs, or if concerts are added (as many have been to the end of our Ameris season due to the cancellation of Music Midtown). To date, that fundraiser has helped the Alpharetta HS Band immensely, and will continue to provide new instruments, educational resources and more opportunities for our students as we continue to grow. Unfortunately, we have a big conflict coming up and I wanted to see if our Webb Bridge Band parents may be able to come to our rescue. On Saturday, September 24th we have a marching band competition that will be in Cobb County. We are going to need our AHS Band Parents with us that evening to help transport our students and logistically help with our performance. That same night, we have an Ameris Band Concert that we need to staff, and this is where you come in. We are asking for a total of 10 WBMS Band Parent Volunteers to come and help us at our Ameris Band Cabana for that night. No experience is necessary. We will have a few of the high school parents there to take the lead, we just need workers. Our parents have a great time working at the concerts and they try to have a lot of fun during the event. On any given night, our cabana can earn anywhere from $2000 to $4000 in tips and staffing rewards. If we can get 10 WBMS Band Parents to work at our stand on September 24th and October 21st, then the AHS Band will fully donate all the proceeds from those evenings to the WBMS Band. This will certainly help Mr. Stroud and the students of WBMS Band with any program needs that he may have. This can be a fantastic "win-win" for both band programs, and again will help the AHS Marching Band families our tremendously. We must have a fully committed group of volunteers by Friday, September 16th. Please see the attached sign-up genius to sign-up for a shift on Saturday, September 24th.
